Bridal Bouquet

When asked to photograph a friends wedding, I felt a bit unsure if it wouldn't go beyond my capacities. So I made clear that for professional results they would have to hire an experienced pro. In the end they decided to take what I would deliver and I had quite concentrated 90 minutes taking pictures and 2 hours converting the raw files to jpegs. I still don't feel comfortable with in-camera jpegs, especially in mixed light or available light situations. And the batch mode of bibble, the possibility to easily copy settings and the powerful noise ninja makes this decision not too hard.

krk beach

family holidays in krk mean spending quite some time on the beach, often without the camera. but when i finally took it with me and dug out my 11-18 lens, it was quite nice to make a wide beach scenery out of a nice small spot. guess it should qualify for the mindful eye's assignment of complimentary colors.

again bibble5's region feature helped to emphasize the sky in addition to the polarizing filter. if you are not already determined on "your" raw converter, bibble5 is definitely worth more than a try. it is now even faster then the old version was and scales well with multicore cpus.

bamboo carving hands

taking a break from the roster-determined duty hours in our booth, i used my time to closely watch some artist in an exhibition hall creating their pieces. light was low and of mixed quality, so again high iso had to come to the rescue.

checking again bibblepro for linux, i found its built-in noise ninja far superior to any other solution i had tried up to now. i am still missing lightzone's ease of use and stringent workflow, but especially with high iso shots it's definitely not up to bibbles class in terms of image quality.

yellow fin thuna, batticaloa

before the winter monsoon rains start, the usual catch for the outrigger boats is small. bigger boats with outboard motors then are the only ones that bring home what they catch by long lines.

even then the catch is small. only 5 small thunas for one early morning of fishing is barely sufficient, given that you have to pay the high fuel price also.

the images were converted in bibble - on the laptop this is a good choice because of the more effective cpu usage than with lightzone - and slightly desaturated to work out the silver color of the fish.

public transport crossing

commuting once a week to the office by public transport offers photographic opportunities (it is a burden, too - 2 hours in early morning buses/trains, well, some of you will know). carrying the camera with me every week did not really pay out, in spite of all efforts. this week i got this picture when waiting at a crossing, getting the bus driver lightened by the reflection of the headlights in the white train surface, with the dashboard lights adding some surreal glow.

technically it is more than astonishing: 5000 ISO is a sensibility we could only dream of in film days, but also beeing able to use a shutter speed of 0.4 sec (on a 16mme wideangle) without tripod, thanks to in-body-stabilisation is a great achievement. so i have to make even better use of these possibilities.

diverting from my usual techniques i used bibble to convert the raw file. the current 4.1 version lacks the wonderful region tools of lightzone, but has a much better noise reduction on noise ninja basis. and, it is available for linux.

anemonae and primroses

even before the last snowfall, anemonae and primroses came into blossom on the slope behind our house. so winter is gone now. definitely. we hope.

processed with bibble. both lightzone and bibble have their strengths, so it's good that I am not forced to decide, at least not for now.

processing of this pictures makes me more difficulties than I thought. ist it oversharpened now? otherwise I loose many details. so I will spend some more time with it.
